This glass filter rod was not invented by Harvey Cory, but by Raymnd Kell of the MacBeth Evans Company in 1932. The familiar design went on to be patented in 1939, while the similar Silex glass filter wasn't patented until 1946. The glass rod was invented for a vacuum cofee brewer or vacuum pot most commonly sold by General Electric. Harvey Cory's Glass Coffee Brewer Corporation of Chicago, Illinois was the main competitor to the Silex coffee makers.
